The Peak of the Game

When renowned architect Jim Engh designed the Snowmass Club course, he drew inspiration from the valley’s ranching heritage — shaping a layout that honors the land’s natural beauty, majestic views, and rugged spirit.

This traditional Irish links-style course twists through the Rockies with dramatic turns, inventive challenges, and views that stop even seasoned players in their tracks.

Sculpted fairways, daring greens, and bunkers with attitude — there’s only one way to know what they’re made of: play them.

This short, dogleg left requires more accuracy than length. Be sure to use enough club for the approach shot if trying to carry the water on the left. It plays a little more uphill than it appears.

This is perhaps the most scenic tee shot on the course, with Mt. Daly in the background perfectly centered in the fairway. The green is up and around to the left with a large bunker on the left corner. Take care to check where the pin location is as the green is very deep in length.

Number 3 is an uphill, par 3 that requires a well-struck shot that will carry to the green. The mounding on the left is very "friendly" and will usually kick the ball onto the green.

Par 4

From the generous landing area off the tee, this hole narrows down as it goes, with bunkers left and right and a creek crossing up by the green. With a valley type green that one might see in Scotland, this hole requires an accurate approach shot.

This is a sharp dogleg left with a creek crossing for the approach shot. Deep bunkers guard the right side. The approach shot is slightly downhill and requires a little less club than it appears.

This short par 4 requires accuracy off the tee. Longer hitters should leave the driver in the bag and go with a fairway wood or long iron to avoid bringing the bunkers into play.

This elevated tee is one of the reasons people enjoy mountain golf. With water on the right and out of bounds on the left, accuracy is more important than distance. The bunker on the left should be avoided as it is one of the deepest on the course.

This par 3 with water short of the green and bunkers covering the left side of the green will test a player's distance control.

"Tee it high and let it fly." The Snowmass Club finishes the front 9 with a tee box that gives a full 360-degree view of the entire Brush Creek Valley. Don't get caught up in the scenery and make sure to get the tee shot in play. It is best to keep the lay-up shot to the left and play the approach in from that angle.

The back 9 opens with a beautiful par 5 with water and a big bunker on the left. Long hitters may have to go at the green in two if they can carry over 220 yards over the water. The smart play is up the left side.

Hole #11

Hole number 11 is one of the more intimidating par 3's on the course, requiring a carry over water as well as the long bunkers on the right. This hole is a great example of how important it is to match the choice of tee with the player's ability. The closer the tee box, the easier the angle of the approach.

Hole #12

Although this is the shortest par 4 on the course, it is certainly one of the most challenging. The bunker in front of the green must be avoided and the undulations on the green make it difficult to read.

With Brush Creek running on both sides of this par 3 green, hole number 13 is one of the more appealing areas on the course. Do not miss it left, as the creek will come into play.

Number 14 plays more uphill than it appears. Be sure to hit enough club up to this hidden green that doglegs around to the right. Avoid the bunker on the right side of the tee if at all possible.

Par 4

At 279 yards from the back tees, this maybe the longest par 3 any of us will ever play. Fortunately, this is the largest and most inviting green on the course.

Hole #16

With an open fairway, this par 5 is all out in front of the golfer. Beware of the hidden bunkers up the green. Keep the approach shot into the green to the left.

Par 4
Hole #17

405

This is a very inviting tee shot, with no bunkeres to avoid and most shots funneling to the middle of the fairway. The greenside bunker on the right must be avoided.

A short par 4 that plays down hill, number 18 requires an accurate tee shot. The lake in front of the green is hidden from the tee and demands an accurate approach shot.
